There Are 3 Reasons People Become Clients
Understand these reasons and save a lot of time and heartache
My consulting clients have brought in millions in revenue.
Then, when I started coaching, I had my first 26k day on the back of a viral FB post.
I chased going viral and tried to teach it to my clients, but it’s way too difficult and unreliable for lead generation. This is mostly because most coaches, consultants, creators, and course owners are not marketers.
However...
Over the years helping people I’ve realised there’s a handful of reasons WHY people become clients.
Some of these reasons lead to getting bad clients, predictably.
But — the path to good clients clients?
Well... There are really only three main reasons that lead to excellent clients.
Once you understand these reasons, you can stop doing all that other time-wasting and authority-eroding stuff —- and instead, focus your marketing on making it easy for these 3 types of people to work with you.
The outcome?
Is inbound lead flow.
That’s what we’re talking about today.
I’m sure you know those people that never seem to go out of their way or try too hard but always get the girl or guy they like?
They just do their thing, be themselves, and the ideal partner magically comes along for them?
But then there are other people who no matter what they do, or how hard they try — they can’t seem to find a decent partner, they always seem unlucky in love?
The parallels in client-getting are astonishing.
Yes, you can pick up at the bar IF you’re prepared to keep trying and trying and trying until someone says yes. Will that person be the perfect catch? Chances are low.
The same principles apply in business.
Se let’s look at the 3 reasons why PERFECT clients buy so we can stop chasing (and maybe catching average or below average clients), and start attracting high value, perfect clients.
Perfect Client Type #1
People who need to learn on their own.
These people are happy to do their own due diligence.
They’ll discover you, binge your content, and come to the realisation that they need to reach out and enquire.
These people can go from complete stranger to paid client in as little as a few days.
To get these people to take action:
You want to have a ULM (Unique Lead Mechanism).
Don’t be confused by the name, it’s essentially a lead magnet on steroids. You can learn more about them HERE.
Perfect Client Type #2
People who need a nudge.
These people are likely already in your audience.
These people have probably been thinking about working with you already, but these types of people usually want to be sure they can commit once they start.
To get these people to take action:
They just need a timely CTA.
Providing your social media is engaging and active, a straight forward CTA every 4-7 posts (or 4-7 days) will nudge these people into your inbox.
Caveat — don’t try trick people into a DM conversation or make it convoluted, just keep it simple, and up front. People respect transparency. And remember, these people likely already want to work with you, they just need a nudge.
If you don’t use social, these CTA nudges are your links in YT videos, or your newsletter or podcast. Short, regular CTAs that target directly at these loyal followers is all you need to do.
They’ll act when they’re ready — but don’t let them forget about you, make it easy for them to keep you front of mind.
Perfect Client Type #3
People who need reassurance that you’re not a fraud.
These people will go to the front of the line often bypassing everything ready to buy, often paying in full.
These people are usually following you but staying hidden, watching from a distance.
These people usually make their mind up to work with you BEFORE you even know they are considering working with you, before they are on your radar.
To get these people to take action:
You need to show the receipts.
With my clients, I teach them how to create what I call “Journey Shares” that are like testimonials on steroids. These create an incredible amount of trust by breaking down false beliefs. You can only create this kind of marketing asset IF you are genuine, honest, and get real results for people. Which is why they are so powerful.
Having a business where you’re always chasing clients is exhausting.
I think so anyway.
I’ve done business both ways, chasing, and attracting.
By far the most fun and fulfilling customers and clients over the years have found their way to me, I’ve never had to chase them.
