Should You Start A YouTube Channel For Your Business?
Are you missing out? Or is it a waste of time? Here's the pros & cons and stuff I wish I knew earlier.
This is part 2 of our YouTube series. Here’s part one. They can be read in any order.
Oh oh.
Social reach is falling.
The feed is filled with AI content.
Everything in marketing feels like it’s shifting.
Good, qualified leads are getting harder to get.
Maybe you’re wondering if you should start a YouTube channel for your business.
What YouTube has meant for my business
Because my YouTube channel is still small, my perspective will give you real-life insight into what it’s like.
Because… well, you’ll be starting from scratch.
And that is both exciting and scary.
I can’t tell you if a YouTube channel is right for you. It’s personal, and many factors go into it.
Instead, in the video below, I share my thoughts about what YouTube has been like for me.
I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments section on YouTube.
Covered in the video…
It’s easier than you think.
It’s more challenging than you think.
It’s a long-term play.
If you don’t like video, stick to written content.
The act of making and publishing videos makes you better at making videos, so if you need to be able to handle the idea of being crap at it at the beginning.
Once you’re established and get the hang of it, you can seasonally incorporate your offers into it, and new people find you from all kinds of interesting places outside your current networks.
Once you start creating content for YouTube, creating social content (and content for your newsletter, etc) seems easier because you have ideas you can reuse and elaborate on.
YouTube allows you to package stories and important concepts unique to your business. This is useful when people discover you off-platform and realise they want to binge. For example, you might send an email newsletter with a video you made last year in it that is still relevant about your take on your industry.
You may already have a lot of videos created, but not yet on YouTube. In this case, you can start your channel by simply releasing a video every other day while you learn to use the platform and begin to make new content.
Focus on learning about packaging: i.e. the thumbnail and title.
No matter what you sell, if someone has seen you on YouTube and watched a few videos, you gain credibility faster than on social. YouTube has that effect.
BONUS benefit… you’ll have to watch to find out :)
Got questions? I’d love to hear them.
